KIM Association- Journal Entry 6

Updated: Apr 11, 2020

Overview

This week, I adjusted to working remotely. I began the process of trying to reconnect with my supervisor and coworkers. I translated documents and worked on photographs previously taken when I was on site.

Challenges

I faced the distinct challenge of engaging with a company that is currently not doing well because of the virus. Emotionally, the experience of leaving the KIM Association has been draining. I have tried to make contact with my supervisor many times and frankly, it seems they have bigger things to worry about. I'm struggling to connect with the previous interns of Loyola from KIM.

Resolutions

I attempted to have these conversations of struggle and how to move past them with both my coworkers and the other Spring JFRC interns. I must continue to make the effort to engage with KIM and plan on sending them a follow-up email this Monday.

Learning Objective Progress

2. Identify ways to connect KIM Association and Loyola University Chicago.

This past week I have communicated with students at Loyola who believe we can make progress in connecting with KIM. I look forward to creating a plan in the next two weeks.

3. Obtain remote working skills.

Generally, I have improved my remote working skills. I understand what my schedule looks like more and how to communicate my needs with colleagues.

Classroom Knowledge This past week we talked about networking in class. I do believe I have a strong network around me. It was a great way to reflect on the connections I have created at Loyola and how to maintain those connections.

Upcoming

These next two weeks I hope to create a plan for fundraising that KIM can put into effect by working with KIM and Loyola students.

Remote Work

1. What did I learn?

This week, I learned that remote work lends itself to a great amount of focus. I also learned that in order to be successful I must work at a desk and truly differentiate my home from my workspace.

2. How did I use problem-solving or critical thinking to address this issue?

This week I translated a document. As someone who doesn't speak fluent Italian, I had several fluent speakers assist me in proofing the translation. Working to translate this document was a specific way I problem solved this week.
